Tier lists for this game already exist online, built from a closed test that has been wiped. Here is what they are actually ranking, and what a real ranking needs before it means anything.
You will find Nexus Anima tier lists today, with letter grades, sorted rosters and confident captions. It is worth knowing exactly what they rank.
What those rankings are made of
They come from the Evolution Test, a closed test that ran from 9 to 27 July 2026, took no payments and wiped all progress at the end.
That means the underlying data has three problems at once:
- It is a beta build. Balance passes between a test and a launch are the norm, not the exception, and creature power is the first thing studios touch.
- It is a small sample. A closed test is a few weeks of play by invited testers, not a live population.
- It was never published. HoYoverse has released no stat tables, no rates and no balance notes, so even accurate observations are second-hand.
None of that makes the people who wrote them dishonest. It makes their output a snapshot of a build that no longer exists.
What a ranking actually needs
For this game specifically, because battles resolve automatically, a ranking would need:
- Kit data, read from the game files rather than observed in a handful of fights.
- Aspect synergy thresholds and values, since a creature’s worth depends on what it triggers in a team, not only on its own numbers. See formation and placement.
- Clear rates on the hardest content, which does not exist until there is hard content and a population playing it.
- Usage among strong accounts, which needs a live game and time.
A game where you cannot act during the fight is, oddly, the kind of game where a data-driven ranking works best. Everything is decided by composition and placement, so the outcome is measurable rather than a matter of player skill. That is exactly why it is worth waiting for real data instead of guessing.
The part a tier list will always miss here
Two Anima with identical stats are not interchangeable if they carry different Aspects, because the Aspect decides which team bonus they help trigger. A flat S to D list flattens that away.
The useful format for this game is closer to “which creatures anchor which Aspect cores”, which is a different document from a ranked list, and one that only makes sense once the thresholds are known.
What we publish instead, for now
- What is confirmed about the game, and what is not.
- The creatures HoYoverse has actually shown, with their Aspects.
- How catching and Rapport work, because those systems are established.
When this changes
The day the game launches, the data becomes readable and a ranking becomes a calculation rather than an opinion. This page becomes that ranking, rebuilt every patch from usage data, with the method stated on the page.
Until then, the honest answer to “what is the best Anima” is that nobody knows, including the sites that have already answered.
