ANANTA puts a squad of four characters into combat and lets you switch between them. What that means for building a team, what the synergies are based on, and what has not been revealed yet.
An ANANTA team is four characters. Each brings their own stats and abilities, those abilities can work together, and you switch between the four during fights.
The basics
| What is known | |
|---|---|
| Team size | Four characters |
| Each character | Own stats and abilities |
| Synergy | Abilities can combine with teammates’ |
| Switching | Between squad members during major battles and boss fights |
| Getting characters | Unlocked through the story, no gacha |
Why four changes how you build
Four slots is a lot of room. In a three-character game, every slot has to pull its weight and teams tend to collapse into one obvious formula. With four, you can afford a character who covers a weakness rather than one who only adds damage.
That matters more in ANANTA than elsewhere, because characters come from the story, not a gacha. You are not stuck with whoever you happened to pull. Once you have unlocked a character, building around them costs nothing but time. Is ANANTA free to play covers how unlocking works.
Where switching fits in
Switching is what the trailers lean on, and what fed the “anime GTA” comparison. In combat terms, it means the squad is not four characters fighting side by side at once: you control one and swap to another.
The mechanics that make switching interesting in similar games are exactly the ones not yet confirmed here:
- whether switching in triggers a special attack
- whether a character’s cooldowns keep running while they are off the field
- whether elements or roles combine for bonus effects
The combat system lists what has been shown. Everything in the list above is the kind of detail that only lands with the full game.
Planning a squad now
Roles, elements and weapon types have not been published for any character, so no team can be “optimal” yet. What you can do is decide who you want together.
Our team planner now builds four-character squads and lets you share one as a link. Its role and element summaries fill in automatically the day that data exists.
What is still unknown
- Whether you can have more than one squad saved and swap between them
- Whether the protagonist, the Captain, always takes a slot
- Whether there is a limit on duplicate roles
ANANTA launches on 15 January 2027. The character database lists everyone confirmed so far.
